How to get rid of hair loss?

Recently, more than ever before, there has been a dramatic increase in hair loss amongst working women. Why is this so?

Modern life is more stressful for the career-oriented workingwoman. The transformation of today’s women into traditional male oriented roles has resulted in increased tension levels. This resultant anxiety emanating from the changing roles at home and at work is ultimately resulting in many a hair problem that women are facing today. It has been proven that career oriented working women have more hair loss than their counterparts, as they experience more stress; have no time to take necessary care of their hair, to eat correctly or to get sufficient rest. Their life is unusually busy, and in case they have a large family to manage that also brings enormous stress, causing hair and scalp disorders that ultimately result in hair loss and baldness. The stress they experience can broadly be classified as:

Competitive stress

Every career oriented workingwoman experiences this kind of stress in her life, which is associated with occupational competition.

Premenstrual stress

Biologically, from puberty to menopause, a woman is tense, irritable and insecure near the time of their monthly periods. Her concentration is affected along with her stamina, so her hair is at the worst during this time, each month. If her hair is greasy, they will be greasier; if there is dandruff then it will be heavier, and if she is experiencing falling hair, this would increase.

Family stress

As a result of competing demands from in-laws, husband and children for her attention, the career-oriented women are more prone to stress. This further aggravates tension.

Other problems that adversely affect her hair and scalp are:

Anaemia

The loss in the body system during monthly periods has to be made up with a balanced diet. Because of her tight work schedules, she tends to snack on packed convenience food and this ultimately lead to anaemia. Over a period, anaemia causes hair loss and a general thinning of the hair all over the head.

So, if you are working, try to religiously follow these simple guidelines:

  • Increase the iron content in your food to avoid getting anaemic.
  • Stop eating junk food, as good diet and good hair go hand-in-hand.
  • Do not eat in a hurry. Take at least 15 minutes during breakfast and 30 minutes at lunch to relax. It is not only what you eat that matters but also how you eat, is what affects your hair and scalp.
  • Be strict in not discussing business over breakfast or lunch. Keep this time for yourself.
  • You can read a magazine while eating, or roam in the park with a friend, while eating a good light lunch. Not only do you need the food, but you also need rest and emotional distancing from work that these few minutes of silence can provide.
  • Take the necessary dietary supplements.
  • Take it easy. Turn off the phones for a few minutes every morning and afternoon. Sit back, be quiet, alone and relax.
  • Exercising daily will relieve you of tension and make you look and feel good. You will also feel more confident. A tension free head promotes blood circulation and subsequently helps in hair growth.
  • Give your hair a daily wash and massage your scalp gently every night.
  • If possible let your hair dry naturally. Do not tease or blow dry.
  • Sleep for at least 7 hours during the night. This is the best way to relieve stress.
  • Adequate amount of sex is also good for your hair as it helps to alleviate stress.
