TRENDS FOR WINTER SEASON by Riya Vashist, makeup artist, owner of Riya Vashist Makeup Academy

Bold Brows: If you haven’t started growing out your eyebrows, now is the time to do. This trend isn’t going anywhere so make sure you have the perfect eyebrow shape.  Fuller eyebrows are a huge trend for winter, well-defined eyebrows, which have the added benefit of naturally framing the face. Thick, strong, and deeply-coloured, brows are taking centre stage on your face this fall.  Blonds should turn towards colours that have more of an ashier tone, while brunettes can get away with going a little darker than their natural brow color.

Blazing Eyes: Spring was all about blues and greens in terms of eyeshadows, and for winter now it’s time for something new. This is something that everyone has their own preference with and is a really fun and simple look for those who can’t quite master their eyeshadow application. The most wearable way to try this trend is to go for a shimmery shade of either a rich copper or a warm brown with red undertones. Blue eyes in particular suit this look as the contrasting colour combined with a warm shimmer really makes the eyes sparkle.

Blushing Cheeks: Be girly with a sweep of pink on the cheeks. A hint of colour on the cheeks is a great choice for this cold season to brighten up your face. Peach and pink is one of the hottest makeup shades for winter. This is pretty much of everyday makeup:  tinted moisturiser, mascara and blushing cheeks. Blush wakes up the whole face up, even better than concealer and mascara. Apply a blush that is slightly brighter than your normal rosy/peachy tone onto the apple of your cheeks.

Berry Lips: Winter is approaching and nothing is as warming as a nice glass of claret. The idea has been transposed into makeup this season with irresistibly deep shades of red for the lips. Rose is a soft pink that adds gentleness to your face. Rose is great to wear in the fall as a lipstick because it softens up the face and creates a nice feminine glow for a youthful touch.

Satin Skin: Say goodbye to that bronzed summer glow, as the winter catwalks signaled a return to invisible    make-up that looks fresh and slightly more matte. You can use a foundation that offers reasonable coverage and leaves a satin finish on the skin. A satin finish sits in-between matte and dewy, making it one of the most universally wearable foundation formulas. Satin skin carefully prepped with foundation before being dusted with    a liberal coat of powder to set.
