Initiated by a textile design graduate from the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad, the designer works closely with artisan and crafts clusters around India narrating the saga of the craft people. The garments are a mode of storytelling emphasizing the feel of the “handmade”. The Fall/winter 2013 is a collection of stories with a distinct ethnic-contemporary look based on visual references from the Boro-Boro along with mended and patched textiles of Japan, the Kimono, the Dhakai Jamdani / muslin from Bengal, the Malkha cotton and Gudi-Mudi khadi. The ensembles borrow from cultures in and around though not hinting at any in particular. Nothing overtly traditional, the aesthetic is “arty” with each ensemble being interpreted differently and each layer perfected for a well-travelled audience.
