Daughter of Commissioner of Police mesmerised the audience with her piano recital

Ankita Kumar, daughter of Neeraj Kumar, the incumbent Commissioner of Police, New Delhi charmed the city at IIT Delhi, with her piano performance HARMONY- that celebrated music from across borders.  The one and a half hour instrumental event featured music from across the world on the piano. Accompanied by the rhythms of the tabla and the strings of the guitar, the evening witnessed Hindi film songs from the black and white era, techno rich Bollywood music of today, Boney M songs and timeless English classic tunes on the piano.

The music mounted on a rich canvas of décor and lights, a memory wall and spell binding visuals of the romance between musician and the music made for a spectacular listening experience for discerning audiences who were the witness to the event. Old Melodies from O haseena zulfon waali, kahin door jab din dhul jaaye, ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si to the latest songs itni si khushi itni si hasii(barfi), tum hee ho (ashiqui 2) were beautifully played on the piano by Ankita.

Through this performance, Ankita aimed to unleash the power of music that speaks no language, breaks barriers of boundaries and binds the world to sing the harmonious tune of life. “Through HARMONY, I paid tribute to my father Neeraj Kumar, for a glorious four decade career in uniform and a brand new innings” said Ankita Kumar.

The blend of music and emotion was witnessed by an elite gathering of 400 people comprising of politicians, diplomats, artistes and music lovers from across the nation. Amjad Ali Khan,  Commissioner of Police Delhi, Neeraj Kumar, celebrity piano maestro and Ankita’s teacher Brian Silas, Anurradha Prasad. Shammi Narang (TV anchor & actor), were amongst the few who attended the event.

ABOUT ANKITA KUMAR: Daughter of Neeraj Kumar, the incumbent Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Ankita Kumar is a well known pianist. She was drawn to the instrument at the age of 12 when she first heard her teacher, piano maestro Brian Silas play.  Since then her   journey with the piano has culminated into an epic romance between the instrument and her. Today twenty performances old, a music album to her credit and the launch of her music school COLOURS OF MUSIC in 2012- Ankita continues to scale new heights in her tryst with the magical instrument. She has performed  at various solo concerts and events including Melody Lane  Siri Fort Auditorium, Amra Sabai at Talkatora Stadium (2012), Resonance at Indian habitat centre (2011),  Yaadein at Kamani Auditorium (2010) and Summer Sonata at India Habitat Center (2010). She is also the recipient of the prestigious Sanatan Sangeet Sankriti Award awarded to her in 2011 for being the most promising young musician of the country.
