John Galliano Teams up with Selective Beauty to Launch Fragrance in 2008

The British fashion designer and creative force behind Dior's Miss Dior Cherie, John Galliano, has signed an 11 year licensing agreement with international fragrance manufacturer and distributor, Selective Beauty. Galliano has been involved in the world of fragrance previously, not only through Miss Dior Cherie, but also as Creative Director for the decadent J'Adore ad, featuring Charlize Theron and through the release of the Diptyque candle that bears his name. The first release from the new partnership is expected in 2008. It is not known yet whether the fragrance will be a reflection of the 2003 "Essence of John Galliano" candle, which featured a woody, warm scent with a hint of Iris.

The theatrical designer has courted controversy in the past for his use of animal fur and is notorious for flamboyant, historically influenced outfits - including his graduation collection in 1984, entitled Les Incroyables and based on the French Revolution. This very first offering was bought in it's entirety by fashion boutique Browns. Despite early recognition Galliano struggled financially over the next few years and as legend has it, it was with the help of Anna Wintour and Kate Moss, the former arranging a show venue and meetings with potential backers, the latter modelling for significantly less than her usual fee, that Galliano threw a spectacular show in Paris that brought him to the attention of LVMH's Bernard Arnault. By 1995 Arnault had placed the designer at the head of Givenchy and by 1997 he had moved him to the larger and more wealthy house of Christian Dior. With such a pedigree in luxury branding and a reputation for extrovert, feminine style the new fragrances are sure to be released and received with a huge media furore.

Select BeautySelective Beauty are a Paris-based manufacturer and distributor of fragrances and cosmetics. The company's President, Corrado Brondi and CEO, Christophe Cervasel, both formerly of LVMH, founded the company in 2000. Other fragrance brands dealt with by the company include Bulgari, Burberry and Agent Provocateur.
