The Gitanjali Group presented a fantastic show along with top designers from the capital, Nikhil and Shantanu at the start of the Lakme Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2009.
Playing with a colour story of red, black and grey the designer duo opened the show with a stunning rouched red halter gown with antique silver chains and medallions and then scored with a collection which was pure drama and beauty.
From sensuous floor length coats with silver zardosi insets to black sari drape gowns, the show had a touch of the vibrant Spanish feel as frills and ruffles appeared on hemlines, dresses and on the necklines to give a totally flamboyant look to the creations.
Stunners in the show were the black Lurex mini with red ruffled cummerbund, a beautiful red sari with simple red and grey edging, a red will-power gown with black sash and a black rouched gown with red shaded bodice.
Men's wear was as opulent as black sherwanis and Jodhpuri jackets were splashed with ornate prints and red shading with detailing on shoulders and sleeves. The antique silver chains and necklaces were strategically placed for both men's and women's garments.
The Gitanjali Group show with Nikhil and Shantanu was undoubtedly a perfect opening for Lakme Fashion Week's Spring/Summer 2009 collections.
