Last season, Gayatri Khanna was moved by the environment and this time for Spring/Summer 2009, it was the oceans that were giving her inspiration for her collection at Lakme Fashion Week.

"Our Coral Reefs" as the collection was called, had all the serene colours and soft lines of the undersea world, which Gayatri had woven beautifully into her garments.

The fabrics lent themselves gracefully as Gayatri selected taffeta, georgette, crepe. voiles and satins for delicate feminine silhouettes. The jackets, paneled skirts, slim trousers and fussy blouses were in colours of the ocean.

Blue, aquamarine, indigo, and lots of varying shades of algae green, vibrant yellow, a dash of grey, black and white were sprinkled with crystals and beading  while the fabric patterns were graphic and multihued inspired by the marine life to bring the beauty of the oceans to onto the ramp.

Opening the show with a line of black, white and yellow minis in op-art designs the collection moved to some diagonal striped tunics with slim pants, textured white covers over dresses, sequined pants teamed with tiered one shoulder tops, then on to the deep blues for halter dresses and finally shades of green for a long gown with small bolero. The bright peachy orange finale creations were a mix of the long and short.

Gayatri ended the show with a dramatic coat embroidered with undersea motifs and teamed it with white narrow pants.

It was a bright sunny summer collection by Gayatri Khanna bringing together another environment message with fashion that created a very stylish line of ensembles.
