From emotion to inspiration, from conceptualisation to collection, Nivedita Saboo takes you through her Roman experience, ‘The Roman Rendezvous’.
Nivedita’s collection is a translation of the breath-taking beauty and grandeur of Roman art and architecture visible in the artistic dome paintings, handcrafted sculptures and solid rangy pillars. The collection flaunts structure in silhouettes juxtaposed against fluidity in drapes. Elements of Rome are displayed in cuts, layers, drapes, scarves and silhouettes that mimic the lithography of old temples, ancient artifacts, and the ‘instita’, and roman inspired wide ornamental borders. Indian aesthetics and its traditions are infused to create a fantasy with crystal and thread embellishments, which further enhance the gorgeous ensembles and present exemplary designs.
Inspired by artistic baroque intricacies, Nivedita’s Roman Rendezvous showcases surface development techniques like foiling, fabric texturisation and customised print development in coherence with more traditional techniques such as innovatively used block printing and hand embroidery. It is a perfect amalgamation between the orient and occident woven together, where elegance is the essence of the moment. The mood of the collection comes together through the hues of Roman influences which are pearled ivory, marble grey, graphite grey, charcoal grey, bright marigold gold, Pompeian red, coppery rust, honey mustard, angel blue, nautical blue and twilight blue.
