‘MADNESS’ BY QUIRKBOX CREATED A MÉLANGE OF ART AND FASHION AT 6DEGREE STAGE ONE DURING LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2016

The Quirkbox label by Rixi Bhatia and Jayesh Sachdev has been known for its experiments with art, prints and fashion. At 6Degree Stage One during Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016, ‘Madness’ by Quirkbox was the first ever mix of Motion Imagery, Fashion and Image Mapping Fashion, shown in India.

This very high tech visual adventure turned the venue into an Art Gallery when art, fashion technology and music were fused to give the audience an unforgettable fashion thrill. With projections as the main elements of the happening, Quirkbox displayed four garments along with face mapping, motion graphics and projections. A few models featured were visualised for the Motion Graphic Imagery by Anibrain; while the other segment had ‘Madness’ with Art Prints presented by Quirkbox as Wearable Art.

‘Madness’ had a clash of prints, colours and metal structures, yet relaxed silhouettes appeared with intense textiles and colour blocking. Quirkbox used fluid fabrics like crêpe and georgette with digital Art prints for a luxe sports look that recreated the 80’s feel of disco to metallic pop art patches that all spelt of a Mad quotient.

The Quirkbox duo remained true to their designing aesthetics, but, up scaled their print game certain notches higher by taking inspiration from art. It was a live installation that had a polychromatic aura with pop paintings hung rhythmically to dramatize the expression behind the line. The attires were fun, youthful and offbeat. A crisp white printed shirt teamed with knife pleated printed shorts and a metallic flowing cape was an eccentric ensemble that set the tone of the poetic line. Shimmering party top with ‘MAD’ printed in bold along with a pop print pencil skirt was another evening number that managed to be a head turner.

An androgynous 3-piece suit including a white shirt with metallic collar detail, a jacket with prominent print in vibrant hues and a loose trouser contrived an overall breezy vibe. The last apparel in the installation was an oversized T-shirt dress layered over a charcoal black pleated skirt that had a subtle lustre. An extremely imaginative element about the collection was the 2 body-con dresses (black, white) that had live prints being projected on it. The concept was not only exclusive and interpreted to perfection, but, it was a vision that shaped futuristic fashion.

As the audience observed this unconventional fashion story in the midst of high tech digital movements, the business of fashion took firm innovative steps into the future world of style, sensibilities and innovative show presentation with this new found ‘Madness’ by Quirkbox that made fashion not only wearable but a memorable eventful happening.
