‘THE LABEL RITU KUMAR’ WAS A GREAT VINTAGE SPORTSWEAR EXPO AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER FESTIVE 2016

Showcasing a delicate, feminine, sporty, street wear line at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016, ‘The Label Ritu Kumar’ merged Parisian and Indian textiles to create an innovative fashion footprint. Boxy silhouettes, panel detailing, prints and stripes along with surface embroidery and multi colours played a major role in the collection.

The collection called ‘Vintage Sportswear’ was inspired by Tennis, which brought on the ramp at the opening of the show, fashion bloggers, Aanam Chashmawala, Kayaan Contractor, Shereen Sikka, Summiyya Patni, Aashna Shroff, Riya Jain and Zoya and Zine  who created a stir in shorts, blouson, frock, miniskirts, maxi and romper to set the mood for the tennis inspired collection.

Shapes were fluid with an emphasis on surface textures. Colour splashes and layering, sleeve detailing and asymmetry added to the design elements of the garments. At times there was a fashionable clash between checks and stripes and tribal prints for the easy, comfy silhouettes.

The colour story was bright and vibrant with shades of red, blue, tangerine, leaf green, black along with summer white and pastels being part of the rainbow hues. A comfy Boho chic vibe appeared in the peasant-like flowing blouses, maxis, jumpsuits, belted knee length dresses, flouncy skirts, shorts and midis.

The ethnic print story in shades of multi colours and the fluid tiered white dresses, belted minis added to the look of the collection. Pretty white smocks with red touches brought a rustic look to the ensembles and created an appeal for the international buyer.

Off-shoulder or cold shoulder blouses and dresses, racer back minis, pleated tennis skirts, drop-waist lacy mini and cutwork pinafores were perfect sporty wear. Jumpsuits, drawstring pants and hoodie, will- power blouses, flared maxi, track pants and blouson, Capris, gypsy blouses, frilled tiered flapper dresses, biker jackets and loads of full flared printed maxis added to the semi-formal look of the collection.

Accessories matched the mood of the show as printed trendy back packs, cross body bags, tennis carry cases and waist belt bags along with sneakers and block heel platforms, some with ankle socks completed the look.

Bollywood’s pretty star, Kriti Sanon was a perfect show stopper in a black silk backless maxi with patterns and motifs of Kashmiri weaves and discreet shimmer.

For an easy fun filled wardrobe selection ‘Vintage Sportswear’ by ‘The Label Ritu Kumar’ will be the perfect choice for jetsetters around the globe.
