Ever wondered where the modern zipper that we use in our daily use emerged from? In early 1913, Gideon Sundback gave us the gift of zips. Before it was given the name of ‘zipper’ it was called a ‘separable fastener’ as it practically held everything together. Zipper Day is observed each year on April 29th and created quite a buzz on social media in 2015.

This day celebrates something that we often do not think about and just automatically take for granted. Can you imagine what life would be like without the zipper? Imagine buttoning and unbuttoning or tying and hooking your dresses, trousers, coats, footwear every time, can’t right?

Interesting the zipper was first used on shoes. A favorite in the fashion world, not just garments but it can be found on most items from purses, backpacks, sporting goods, camping gear and luggage. A zipper not just holds things up but has become quite a style statement over the years.
