Café Morrison kick-starts the gig session in the capital with Metal Battle -1, featuring 4 bands playing hardcore metal on an evening dedicated to music. The four bands, namely, Heisenberg, Silent Existence, Jehova hand Winter Gate will take you through a musical expedition promising you to scream your lungs out and head bang to their tunes.

Playing music on the progressive side with a thrashy old school sound, Heisenburg, relies on heavy experimentation and lets in the elements of jazz and Carnatic music to flow through their works. Formed in 2009, the line-up features Akshay Nangia (Vocals), Aishwarya Uniyal (Guitars), Kumar Vasan (Guitars), Siddhant Sharma (Bass) and Shreshth Chawla (Drums). As the band name suggests, the songs talk about metaphysics, biology, the uncertainty in life, alternate realms of reality and (to keep it metal) question hypocrisy, which is, according to the members, the spine of our society.

Formed in the latter half of year 2008, Silent Existence has come a long way in terms of song writing and performances. Withstanding the line-up changes in the first few months and trying to play louder and faster every time they got onto a stage, the band today commands a considerable fan following and is known in the Delhi circuit for their radically tasteful fusion of nu-metal and thrash and the energy they bring with their music. Their lyrical content inspired mostly by religious texts and writings, the band tries to focus on issues that are close to their hearts. The band features Vinayak Nambiar (Vocals), Jonty Indra (Guitars), Ashwin Aryan (Guitars), Franklin Joseph (Bass) and Varun Choudhary (Drums).

Jehovah is one of the freshest and the most unique metal acts to hail in a long time. Blending a vast spectrum of genres and incorporating them in précised structures, the band has developed an organic, yet heavy as nails sound enhanced by worldly melodies and harmonies, which is a rare breed. Primarily, the band’s musical direction could be categorised under Groove/Death Metal. Jehovah has had many notable wins to its name including the prestigious Avalanche (NSIT) and has also shared the stage with major international acts, Viatrophy (UK) and Xerath. Playing the most extreme yet true to the soul music which really defines their attitude towards music, the band features Arjun Sudhakar (Vocals), Dizianlung Panmei (Guitars), Karan Katiyar (Guitars), Kushagra Nautiyal (Bass) and Pritpal Singh (Drums).

Going on is Winter Gate, band formed back in 2008, with the name “Alath” playing Death-Thrash covers. Winter Gate, experiments with their influences. Progressive by nature, they try to put variety of influences in a song and hence avoid being contained in a genre. Driven by Death Metal, pushed by 70’s sound and held by Progressive Rock is what it makes Winter Gate, what they sound. The band features- Sudeep Saxena (Drums), Ankit Yadav (Bass), Devashish Dutt (Guitars/Vocals) and Lovenish Sharma (Guitars).
