The fourth edition of Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week in association with AZVA at the Hotel Grand, New Delhi will showcase Suneet Verma’s collection wheren he recreates the splendour of the city of POMPEII. A city that was the pinnacle of the Roman Empire. Its grandeur and craft has been the subject of many historians worldwide and has inspired Architects, Artists, Writers for decades- trying to capture its allure and antiquity. The exquisite city of Pompeii was conceived for subtlety and has become a symbol of sophistication, affluence and the eternal decadence of the Ancient Rome.
The collection titled "The Golden Bracelet" has been inspired by the clothing and lifestyle of Pompeii and is designed in the themes of Romance, Longing and Wedding. The gentle drapes in beige, ivory and grey, the rushing and pleating techniques are reminiscent of the long toga drapes and the column dresses of the time. The sensuous and diaphanous fabrics flow gently on the body.
Romance.
The hand painted Frescos from the Villa of Mysteries with their erotic wall paintings tell us about the evolved lifestyle of its people. These paintings inspire the Jewel toned, rich devoré velvet line with gold metallic prints and rich beaded tassels. Draped skirts with off shoulder corsets, long tunics with wide pants and cutwork saris with detailed blouses. Knitted wool dresses in black and navy, teal and maroon tunics worn with appliqué and printed velvet stoles.
Longing.
The ivory and light blue line is in long silhouettes with baroque pearls as adornment and decorated with colour on colour beading- the stylized saris as a dress worn with sheer full sleeved blouses, the tiered skirts in georgettes with corsets and net jackets. Silk knits in cobalt, coral, purple and black are draped close to the body in floor length dresses.
Wedding.
Handmade lace in dull gold, silver and grey... sheer coats, layered over skirts and saris, languid silhouettes soft on the body. Short tunics with sheer details with wide pants, rushed chiffons and tulle shrugs worn with lace corsets. The collection takes inspiration from the poetic life of the people of Pompeii.
As always the accessories and styling of each model plays a large part in Suneet’s show. All the accessories are handmade in metal and have been gilded and gold leafed to resemble the bygone era. Wreath inspired headgears, necklaces in shapes of twigs, dangling ear and finger adornments and the handmade Golden bracelets.
