How to Remove Dark Spots Easily

A gorgeous face mesmerizes anyone but dark spots on it can be a dire nightmare. Just imagine, an odd spot or a pimple on that good-looking face! That spine chill feeling can shudder anyone, especially women. But now, dark spots can be ebbed easily with proper care. How? Well, here you go.

An immaculate face is the biggest asset and in today’s competitive world, a beautiful, appealing face is like a trump card. For this, it is vital that you to take good care of your face and your skin as a healthy skinned person engrosses everyone easily. A beautiful face is considered as God’s handwriting. And if we talk about a woman’s beautiful face then who will not get bowled over by the striking face of Madhu Bala, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and today’s heartthrob bubbly girl, Katrina Kaif.

We all recognize beauty when we see it, but in today’s busy world, we hardly spend time in its care.  As a result, one day when we get up in the morning and look in the mirror languidly, we observe that some areas of our face are dappled and the colour of these areas is not the same as the rest of the face. Vehemently, we start looking at those areas in the mirror with a perturbed feeling.

Well, these unwarranted areas do indicate the start of an irreversible trend, but it is not so. This is a common occurrence known as dark spots. Dark spots on the skin also called hyperpigmentation, are a common skin problem, that begins especially during the middle age. There are a variety of conditions and agents that can cause dark spots to develop.

Skin diseases that cause dark spots

One of the least recognized causes of the dark spots is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is a dark spot that erupts after some type of trauma to the skin, especially infections like acne. Some skin diseases are listed here:

  • Melasma
  • Riehl's melanosis
  • Poikiloderma of civatte
  • Erythromelanosis follicularis
  • Linea fusca
  • Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Medications that cause dark spots

Certain medications sensitize the skin to the sun while some other medications cause dark spots, without sun exposure. The most common medications that can cause these adverse reactions are listed here:

  • Estrogens
  • Tetracycline
  • Amiodarone
  • Phenytoin
  • Phenothiazines
  • Sulfonamides

UV light causes specific types of dark spots

UV light is a major cause of not only dark spots, but also other types of skin damage.  Various types of dark spots caused by UV light are listed here:

  • Melasma
  • Solar lentigines - freckles
  • Ephelides

Other causes of dark spots

These are other conditions or diseases that can cause dark spots:

  • Pregnancy
  • Liver disease
  • Addison's disease
  • Hemachromatosis
  • Pituitary tumors

Liver spots

Alternative names

Sun-induced skin changes - liver spots; senile or solar lentigines; skin spots - ageing; age spots.

Definition

Liver spots are changes in skin colour associated with older skin. The increased pigmentation may be brought on by ageing, exposure to sun or other forms of ultraviolet light or unknown causes. Liver spots are extremely common after the age of 40. Most often, these occur on the back of hands, on the fore arms, shoulder, face, forehead  and other areas of highest exposure. They are harmless and painless but they may affect the cosmetic appearance. Occasionally, liver spots may obscure the diagnosis of skin cancer.

Causes

Liver spots are changes in skin colour associated with older skin. The increased pigmentation may be brought on by ageing, exposure to sun or other forms of ultraviolet light, or other unknown causes. Liver spots are extremely common after the age of 40.  Most often, these occur on the back of the hands, on the forearms, shoulder, face, forehead and other areas of highest sun exposure. They are harmless and painless, but they may affect the cosmetic appearance. Occasionally, liver spots may obscure the diagnosis of skin cancer.

Symptoms

The main symptom is a skin lesion that is a painless, flat patch (area of skin colour change):

  • Usual colour is light brown to black
  • Usual location is the hands, arms, or forehead

A diagnosis is based on the appearance of the skin, especially if the patient is over 40 and has had a lot of sun exposure over the years. Liver spots are not medically dangerous. They are permanent skin changes that may affect the cosmetic appearance of the skin.

Complications

A possible complication is emotional distress from the appearance of the liver spots.

When to contact a medical professional

Contact your health care provider, if liver spots are present and removal is desired, or if new symptoms develop, particularly changes in the appearance of any skin lesion.

Prevention

Protect your skin from the sun by taking the following precautions:

  • Wear protective clothing such as hats, long-sleeved shirts, long skirts, or pants.
  • Use sunglasses to protect the eyes.
  • Sunlight is most intense at mid-day, so try to avoid exposure during these hours.
  • Use high quality sunscreens, preferably with SPF (sun protection factor) ratings of at least 15.
  • Apply sunscreen, at least half an hour before exposure, and re-apply frequently. Use sunscreen in the winter, too.

Treatment

Usually, the cosmetic appearance of the skin may be improved by the use of skin bleaching lotions or creams. Cryotherapy (freezing) or laser treatment is also being recommended to destroy the liver spots. However, the continuous internal therapy of ‘orally taken natural depigmentation supplements’ along with regular application of high quality sunscreens, preferably with SPF of at least 15 is the safest and most effective way to get rid of dark spots.

So, follow these instructions religiously and you will realise that the dark sports are not a nightmare for a gorgeous and smiling face.
