ESSENTIAL LOOKS has a proven track record in translating catwalk couture into a commercial reality and is now celebrating eleven years of success. Essential Looks is the seasonal guide for change from Schwarzkopf Professional, delivering wearable, desirable style direct to the salon door in a usable, accessible format.

It is designed to gift hair professionals with the essence of seasonal inspiration. The “Eclectic Collection” takes its inspiration from the world of haute couture and is inspired from the fashion weeks of London, Paris, Milan and New York. The hair care giant features four distinctive hair styles this season. The Eclectic Collection has four distinctive fashion moods namely Country Life, Eccentric Vintage, Gothic Romance & Sculptured Form.

Stated Najeeb Ur Rehman,  the fashion industry's most sought after hair stylist, “This year we have imbibed the extravagance and chic of the fashion industry to deliver desirable, wearable, & gorgeous hairstyles. Each of the four fashion moods identified have been expressed in three ways. Essential Trend is an undiluted, fashion forward look. Essential Style is a commercial interpretation and Essential Dressing provides editorial perspective. So the mood within the "Eclectic Collection" is all about depth and it certainly gives the stylist and their clients a free reign on the various looks they want to create and explore while at the same time giving them pointers to stay trendy".

Speaking on the four fashion moods from the Eclectic Collection, Mr. Murali Sundar, Country Manager, Schwarzkopf Professional India said," I'm excited about the Eclectic Collection because it is populated by wearable and beautiful shapes and tones that have great commercial application. Essential Looks is our enduring commitment to placing fashion driven skills directly into the hands of hair professionals around the world. The Eclectic Collection is our best bet to storm the Indian grooming scene."

The Essential Looks - Eclectic Collection is presented in four fashion moods:
Country Life –This look is driven by the trend for tweeds, velvets and plaids, nature-based tones, and sheer floral prints and frills. Hence, hair becomes light and effortless to offset rich fabrics with movable textures that are easily ruffled by a fresh breeze, and short styles worn in earthy tones. Shine is key, with vitality bursting from every follicle leading to lustrous, touchable hair, with a finish that's naturally radiant and fresh.

Natural, warm and tactile. Cocooning shapes and textures.

Eccentric Vintage – Unconventional and whimsical, vintage takes on new dimensions this season, when teamed with structured corsetry and sportswear, resulting in mismatched proportions and eccentric layering. In hair, this translates into romantic styles (braids and loose hair dressings), and colours (soft titians and brunettes), being given a contemporary edge – think "attitude ponytails" set against daring colours. Utterly feminine, yet strong and modern, this look is all about finding the precious amidst surprising collusions of colour, shape and texture.

Feminine and unexpected. Mismatched proportions and eccentric layering. Ponytails, braids and loose dressings.

Gothic Romance – This season walk a darkened edge, with sinisterly beautiful styles in hair, clothing and makeup that tend towards the macabre. Summed up by Alexander McQueen's Victorian Punk dresses in black lace and tulle, this look sees concoctions of texture mixing rough with smooth, and vibrant colours set amidst dark tones. Luxurious condition emphasises the aristocratic air of the trend, with glossy finishes counterbalancing tousled touches, and multi-toned crimping.

Strong yet smoulderingly romantic. Mysterious, dangerous, brooding. Lace and beaded detailing. Iridescent colours.

Sculptured Form – Following the current trend for electronic music and fashion's modish Eighties aesthetic, precision is thrust into the spotlight, with super sharp tailoring and minimal silhouettes. Prada's lean suiting in cool neutrals and YSL's molded dresses spoke of a new geometric approach to fashion, and this plays through hair as well with strong graphic haircuts and colours. A neutral palette adds confidence to geo-crops and fierce shaping, while the edges bear strong lines and precise placements.

Architectural shapes and linear designs. Cool neutrals and androgynous overtones. Minimal silhouettes and commercial tailoring.

All these looks were given to stunning Indian models who walked the ramp as part of the grand finale. On the whole, the event was a grand success and the stylists and fashionistas in the audience were richer from the experience.
