SRK and Hrithik running for the worst at 3rd Annual Golden Kela Awards

2010 was an exceptional year for Bollywood (even by Bollywood standards), with a huge number of insane, inane and indubitably mind-numbing films being released – from My Name Is Khan to Tees Maar Khan. After wasting hundreds of hours and thousands of rupees watching all these failed experiments of filmmaking, the time for vengeance has arrived. Get ready to get even with the 3rd Annual Golden Kela Awards for the Worst Of Indian Cinema in 2010.

Yes! That’s right…like Golmaal (the crappy Rohit Shetty directed blot-on-the-name, not the classic Hrishikesh Mukherjee film), the Golden Kelas are back again…for the third year running. But unlike Golmaal (refer to the preceding parentheses), the 3rd Annual Golden Kela Awards are not just a rehash of stupid old jokes and botched attempts at humor which would make even the earlier versions seem great in comparison…in fact, they promise to be way bigger, better and squelchier than ever before!

For starters, due to the large volumes of Bollycrap that was unleashed this year, our jury had a really tough time shortening the nominees list to five per category. As a result, most categories have more than five nominations (the number goes up to an astronomical 8 for Worst Film and Worst Director). Second, the number of Special Awards is also higher than ever before (yes, two years is good enough to be called ever!). And last, but not the least (yes, we love clichés…what else do you expect from an awards ceremony for Bollywood?), the 3rd Annual Golden Kela Awards will be hosted by the King of Nonsensical Humor, Cyrus Broacha, on the 12th of March in the capital.

On being asked why he’s a part of the Golden Kelas, Cyrus replied “I have no choice as I owe money to two of its founding members.” As for his views on the event, he says “The Kelas are very important. Kelas were carefully selected as they are a symbol of energy. It is a fervent hope of the organisers to inject energy back into contemporary films.”

The nominations are out and voting lines are open. Founder Jatin Varma, exhorting people to cast their precious vote, said “Last year about 3,00,000 people got revenge on Bollywood. And the movies weren’t half as bad as this year! So we’re expecting a lot more people to vote. Hopefully enough to make our ‘filmmakers’ sit up and take notice.”

So get your revenge for all those anguished hours you’ve spent in a theatre cursing your luck by voting for your favorite worst performances and films of this year. Log on to www.goldenkela.com to check out the categories, nominees, updates and cast a vote for vengeance.
