The Second Show By The Gemological Institute Of America Presented Five Creative Designers With Their Innovative Collections At The India International Jewellery Week 2013

Nirupa Bhatt MD, India and Middle East of Gemological Institute of America, proudly presented the second show to the very eager audience. It was a line up of five top designing talents at the India International Jewellery Week 2013 that created excitement from the start.

The show opened to the melodious singing of Indian Idol winner, Vishal Kothari to the beat of percussionist, Apoorva, who rocked on the drums, to set the pace for the models to swing onto the ramp. Neha Basu’s kalidar anarkalis in pastel shades complemented the jewellery in perfect harmony.

JAYSHREE THAKUR – INSPIRED BY MOTHER NATURE
Jayshree Thakur’s designs were a reflection of Mother Nature and her elements living in synchronized harmony. The designer has always believed in creating her signature style of jewellery by incorporating it with the social causes close to her heart. Her collection at the India International Jewellery Week 2013 was on similar lines, presenting the beauty of metal and stones in all their glory.

A striking cottage motif pendant with a horse design rested on a flat band, while layers of green enamel, gold and lilac created a striking necklace. A web like neck piece with a butterfly and onyx centre, the twisted flat diamond, rubies piece and the bold plait of diamonds of enamelled painted pendant with pearls, diamonds, rubies completed the line.

SHRADDHA AGARWAL – A MELANGE OF TEXTURES
Shraddha Agarwal of Kolkata had unconventional, charismatic designs that reflected a feminine elegance. She has always believed her pieces should be intricately crafted, be experimental, but at the same time she has used textures, variety of diamonds and coloured stones. Her India International Jewellery Week 2013 collection was unconventional, wearable, trendsetting yet unique.

The show opened with six pendants attached to a necklace of rubies, kadas, jhoomer and earrings, followed by a heart shaped neck piece with oval pendant, maang tikkas and cuffs. A square bangle twinkled with diamonds and the wrap around pearl, diamond, gold neck ornament with two large pearls at the tips was a stunner.

BHUMIKA SELVADIA – FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION
Bhumika Selvadia’s style reflected the many choices of a contemporary Indian woman. She was inspired by the different roles of a woman in society – that of a daughter, a sister, a mother and a wife. Her pieces were made for not only everyday glamour but for that very special occasion. 

It was traditional bridal wear with the haar chotli, belt, chokker, bracelet in yellow gold, diamonds and rubies; while the simple diamond strand was ideal for festive wear. Three neck pieces completely South Indian in design comprised raani haar, hasli and chokker with jhumkas, armlet and bangles. Emeralds and diamonds played with pearls for a long strand around the neck; while the diamond moulded belt and haar as well as haar chotli and armlets were the complete offering for the wedding day.

GARIMA DIXIT – COMBINING MANY ERAS
A Graduate Gemologist from GIA, Garima has always felt that a design is a combination of past, present and future. Her designs were aimed for special occasions in a woman’s life and her design style reflected innovations that were lavishly soaked in tradition. Garima’s jewellery made with the finest gemstones enabled her to bring the vision to life.

The presentation opened with an over powering nose ring and intricate swirling design for the earrings worn with diamond choker. Yellow gold was crafted into a side swept graduating choker, while gold giant flowers embellished a necklace worn with a towering ring. An interesting addition was the bangle-cum-armlet linked by chains and the linear danglers in gold and diamonds.

The final spread collar over shoulders in coloured diamonds, rubies and emeralds was a great end to the presentation.

NIKKI ARORA – CREATING EXCLUSIVE PIECES
Nikki Arora’s very creative, fluid and stunning one of a kind pieces were presented to brighten every special occasion. Inspired by nature, Nikki Arora took her theme to the next level with her amazing designing skills. Her India International Jewellery Week 2013 collection included exquisite handmade statement neckpieces that are sure to add glamour to any wardrobe.

The collection comprised rows of white gold speckled with stones for a necklace, a side pendant on a bed of gold beads and strands of diamonds, sprays of flowers on velvet bands, moulded one finger Haath Phool was worn with three semi circles around the neck. The raised cuff in a lacy design with multiple star burst necklace and tikka, sparkled with emeralds and diamonds.
