Krishna Mehta recreates the beauty of fashionable desert colours at Lakme Fashion Week

It was a stylish "Sunrise in the Desert Sands" as Krishna Mehta titled her collection and the beautiful colours of the desert came alive for her Spring/Summer 2009 look at Lakme Fashion Week.

Colours have never been more vibrant than they were on the design canvas of Krishna as she wove her creative magic with poster red, cobalt blue, yellow, green, iridescent orange and tones of violet for a men's and women's line that was pure prêt.

The weaves were ikats in silks with chiffons and georgettes adding their beauty to the garments which discreetly glittered with crystals, sequins and tiny woven gota embroidery.

The men's and women's lines were in simple basic silhouettes so that the beautiful fabrics specially woven in Krishna's workshops in Gujarat would be the focal point.

Tiny smocks, minis, shirt dresses, kurtas, textured dresses and a sensuous line of saris were a feast for the eyes. The eye catchers among a line of simple styles were the fuchsia purple textured and embroidered sari, the tiny orange pure silk textured dress, the navy blue textured dress with embroidered hemline, the maroon and black embroidered sherwani style kurta for men and the turquoise long dress. Mention must be made of the lovely footwear which matched the dresses in their vibrant colours.

The show stoppers were actor Samir Dattani in a silk sherwani and TV and now Bollywood star, Prachi Desai in a red long chiffon gown.

Here was a collection which was hand woven and embellished but with western silhouettes that will appeal to the connoisseurs of fashion and will surely win for Krishna Mehta many accolades as the creations will be great sellers all over the world.
