Varun Bahl chooses striking blue stones and victorian diamonds for Shree Raj Mahal Jewelers India Couture Week 2014

Varun Bahl picked a wide selection of jewellery from Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers for his show on DAY 3 of Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week 2014.

The show witnessed some of Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers finest bridal creations. From luxurious necklaces in antique gold and polki jewellery and some stunning earrings in tanzanite, blue stone, exotic rubies, and diamonds in ovals, round cuts and fancy cuts, Varun Bahl’s show was a visual delight.

He picked some unique ensembles with an assortment of precious coloured stone rings which include pearls and seashells.

Aura and power of the past, even if tried can never be lost. Diamonds inherently possess this natural and sophisticated character much like the designer Varun Bahl designs.

In his Fall 2014 Haute Couture collection, Varun Bahl presented a modern version of Indian-wear staples that celebrate India's wealth of traditional crafts. His silhouettes for this lineup include the anarkali, an eternal favourite, the sari, and the lehenga.

The anarkali is a key component, and Varun experiments with its form, discarding the de rigueur panels or 'kalis' and achieving the same fit-and-flounce with circular-cut patterns. The Sari also gets a contemporary update in the form of the sari-pant, a mix two classics that becomes something truly modern inspired by India. A selection of traditional lehengas and classic saris completes the lineup.

This also happens to be Varun Bahl's 10th year as a showing designer, meaning that though he started making clothes in 2001, his first ramp presentation took place in 2004. This collection represents ten years' worth of experiences and experiments. It has elements from almost all of his favourite shows: his signature Rose motif, dainty appliques in velvet, intricate hand-embroideries achieved in strips of chiffon and gota, interplays between volume and structure, layered looks, and his favourite colours, like duck-egg blue, navy, black, ivory, silver and gold, mustard, fuchsia, and pale pink.
